With over 100 products only having a few hours left before they "are gone from the Royal Canadian Mint forever", I wonder if they will melt down or liquidate to a dealer who will slash the price. If they do destroy them, will they publically revise mintages? Because I already have some of the "Last Chance" products, my hope is they destroy and the mintage would be lower. What I think will actually happen is they will go to the secondary market at a huge discount. Be interesting to see where this goes.

My guess would be that it goes to the secondary market, like an asyn or someone like that. If they melt it, it is only worth $21/oz minus the cost of smelting. In the secondary market, they could get 40% of list price.

Years ago, the RCM did dump excess inventory into the market via dealers. They stopped the practice, at least in part, because of the complaints received from collectors. I would hope they learned their lesson and would not restart their dumping practice now.

And they sell it for about 60% of list prices, including, stuff from 2 years ago..

@silverwolf: The info I reported came from a face-to-face conversation with a dealer who had previously been involved with the RCM. The conversation was at least 10 years ago, however, so things could certainly have changed in the interim.

In the latest round of "Get them before they're gone" coins ending today, Aug 31, I think it's kind of strange to see 2019 coins in the mix.

Does the RCM mint coins on demand, or do they mint the full allotment in one run? If the former, does this mean that there could be coins that are not minted to their maximum quantity?

From what I understand, they mint the full allotment, try to sell it for a few years, and then melt it down.
