As most of you know ONE of my goals for this year was to complete the 5 good emperors set....Like always Nerva being the thorn in the side! And after 6 months of 'bidding and losing'-'bidding and losing'..I've just managed to land a decent Nerva Denarius (With a great snotch!) at a good price. I'll never be able to afford a Plotina Denarius but will try to find a little bronze (Still expensive) hopefully by the end of the year and this will finish off the emperors 'chicas' set aswell! Will also add an Aelius (As we all know what Hadrian was up to!) aswell as a Lucius Verus... Anyhow here they are.....Not the highest of quality but still nice!.. Hope you like...And please feel free to post your 5 good E'S we'd love to see them.....Paul

My sincere congratulations. Setting a goal that isn't easy, but that is possible is the cornerstone of building a great collection.

Nice job, Paul. How is it that you seem to set dozens of annual goals - and complete them - and I set just a handful that don't seem to ever get done?

Congrats on completing the set! You have quite a nice grouping of coins there - High enough grade to really appreciate the skill and artistry involved, yet worn enough to have some real character! If I had to choose one, I'd probably choose that scowling Trajan, although I am also quite fond of the Hadrian. The Nerva is quite nice as well... he's tough to get in acceptable grade, and prohibitively expensive in anything approaching XF. I'll keep my eye out and let you know if I spot any stray Plotinas - the last few months I think were a fluke to see so many come up for auction. And don't forget Marciana and Matidia!

That Nerva is really great. Well done!

Thanks for the comments guys..Really appreciated! @ Bob..I get very easily distracted and have so many 'GOALS', which increases every month, that I basically stumble across completing some of them eventually...But last month I made a 'NEW GOAL' to finish all the other 'GOALS' before making any new 'GOALS' ....Which leads me nicely onto ... @ Claudius..Great set! Really like the contrast of the different patinas.. Thanks for sharing...Which was the most difficult to acquire?....I've just purchased my first Sestertius of Antonius Pius which I recently posted..A big wow factor with size and weight..As a new 'GOAL' for next year ('distracted') is to complete the 5 good emperors set in big bronzes like you but maybe with Sestertius, Dupondius and As of each 5.... @ Finn...Thanks...I managed to pick up all these for less than $30 except the Trajan and Nerva and tried to keep as nice a portrait as pos...I'm not into 'shiny' in general so went for more toned coins....As for the two 'M' words probably a new 'GOAL' for next year will be to find them in bronze but haven't checked out prices yet! But think they can be found for under $200? And yeh let me know if you spot a cheap Plotina Thanks to all Paul

I think Nerva is the most difficult to acquire - for me anyway. The plan was to create the set with all Sestertius... but his were just too darn expensive. I did come across some very low grade ones I could afford but I really, really liked the portrait that dupondius - so I made the exception.

A very nice portrait too!...And I agree a Nerva Sestertius can be expensive I'll probably have to do it by layaway....Paul

Well @Finn235 came up trumps yet again..Thanks Steve really appreciated! A nice little Plotina....To complete the 'chicas' of the 5 good emperors set I've been collecting... A tough lady to find at a decent price and one that I know I will never be able to afford in silver... Plotina, AE18 of Gordus-Julia, Lydia. 98-117. Magistrate Poplios. ΠΛΩTEINA CEBACTH, draped bust right / EΠI ΠOΠΛIOY ΓOΡΔHNΩ, Zeus seated left, holding patera and sceptre. BMC 18.....Ref wildwinds(thanks) And here's the set...

I love the fact that you added the wives and they all have beautiful detail! Finn came through for me as well in completing my Constantinian dynasty set, which I still have to post.
BTW you've just inspired me to make an effort to complete my set. I stumbled across an unidentified Roman which turned out to be Nerva (obviously low grade), so I'm almost there.
