This is super hard for me to examine with my aging eyes and I'm sure most of you know what to look for. It looked to me that there is something behind the S?

It's a bit hard to make a determination with this picture - a little blurry and a bit of glare.

yes, photo not clear enough. I kind of think I see what you see, but the answer is in the details...

1968-S-Proof-Dime.-Is-This-Mint-Mark-Repunched?

Its so hard to catch a good enough pic of what I'm seeing with my eye. Fingers crossed in hopes I can get a confirmation on this. Ive found so much stuff that winds up being grease, strike through, wore out coin ect...

This came from a mint set I picked up today for $8. The Kennedy half appears to be silver as well. Anyone ever seen a silver jfk 1/5 from an S mint set?

Here are the two RPMs Variety Vista has. Note the areas where the RPM appears:

There is definitely something behi d the mm plus the tails have that separated knobs on the ends. Its still in the mint case slab. Ive been afraid to open it up to take a better picture unobscured by the plastic case. How do you open these up without damage?

From the last image posted, what you are seeing is mintmark punch damage. We see this often. When the dies are complete (including tempering) they add the mintmark to the die. After setting several of these into a hardened die, the punch gets damaged.

How do they look damaged? Well they often fold over on the corners of the puncheon.

These are RPMs with mintmark punch damage, but the RPM is not part of the mintmark punch damage.

So what you are seeing on your coin is not a RPM, but mintmark punch damage.

Great googly moogly I cant catch a break on finding a real deal good coin! Its always grease strike through and now a damaged die. I'm learning quuckly to not get my hopes up. The hunt continues. I did at least get a silver mint proof jfk out of the set and they certainly are beautiful. I'm gonna focus on key date scarce high grade coins. These error searches are disappointing
