Okay, you guys want me to try the Darkside. I have a question. How difficult is it to find affordable coins (they don't have to be in great condition) from the Tudor/Elizabethan period in England? I have spent the last 33 years of my life reading/watching everything I could get my hands on for this period of history, but know very little about the coinage. Anyone who has any knowledge of this, please educate me.
Rest in Peace

Hi Susan,

I saw a few nice pieces in recent weeks. The person to talk with is GDJMSP. In the meantime I will do a little research.

I'm watching this one:

1573 Sixpence

This will be the first coin that I am looking to purchase for a collection (not for resale) in a couple of years. I can't believe that it's only at $22.50 and the portrait is much nicer than many I looked at.

A very helpful WINS member sent this link to me and said I could post it here:

I am getting more excited as the days go by. I feel like this auction has been running for weeks!

Am I an official "darksider" by wanting the coin or do I have to have it in my possession? I just want to understand the rules.

I am so sad. The coin went for $100 more than I was willing to pay. I think this is going to be an expensive collection

I might be able to afford the book that the seller has running now. It probably makes more sense to buy the book first, anyway. But I really wanted that coin.....

Hey Susan, The State of Texas is auctioning off quite a few oldies found in an abandoned safety deposit box. Yes, I am right in there giving it my best on ebay! Seems the State of Texas knows the quality of a good ebay auction?

Are any of them old British hammered silver coins?

Nope, don't go back that far. Earliest British I saw was 1807 if I remember correctly. Will have to keep you posted as I am eyeballing a couple of oldies being auctioned.

Good luck! It's amazing what you can find in auctions like this. Especially since the State of Texas probably isn't going to have any real idea of value on the coins.
