Hi all, I'm about to start on a totally new collection. Canadian Large Cents 1858-1920. Don't know why, but I have been finding myself drawn to that series lately and I don't even have one example in my collection. Well I was browsing ebay and came across a Capital holder for the entire series (w/o varieties) and took that as a sign that I should put together a set. The thing is, I don't have ANY reference books for Canadian except for the Standard Catalog of World Coins. Do any of you have any recommendations for grading guides, price guides, or even any general references of Canadian coinage? I have my eye on the Standard Grading Guide for Canadian Coinage and a copy of 2005 Charlton. I assume that they are the equivalent of the ANA Grading Guide and the Red Book? Any comments are welcome.

I have a copy of the 2005 Charlton and yes, that is there Red Book so to speak. If you are drawn to Canadian I would suggest you purchase one as you will then be covered, so to speak, across the board! I buy colonial tokens for a collector in the Netherlands and they are not listed in the Charlton guide which was a bummer! If you want another challenge try a Type Set of Canadian coin. I am currently piecing together the 1858 to 1952 album and have found out it is going to take a while!

Ndgoflo, Hello. Susan got me hooked on those a little while back and I really like the collection. I have designed my own album and am on a roll. I use the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins as my basic reference guide. Great for anyone who is starting to collect canada. I did extend my collection to include the small cents as well. With the exception of about six they are pretty inexpensive. I just added a couple of pages to my album. I too don't include varieties. If there is anything I can do to help let me know. catman

It is a Canadian Type album made by Dansco. The number (Dansco) is 7210. I imagine someone would have it on ebay as I bought this one used from a dealer in Indy for $10. Now all I have to do is fill the darn thing!
