Hi Y'all

I recently inherited a coin (and note) collection and I'm looking to carry on collecting. I'm gonna need a fair bit of support understanding what I have and what I should be looking to collect to complement the existing collection going forward...

In short I have modern 50p and £2 coins, a handful of Roman coins, stuff from the 1930s and 1940s and a lot of coins from 60s and 70s from around the world. The original collector was once upon a time in the merchant navy and so visited a few places.
I haven't counted but I think there must be 200 +coins, 20 notes and others bits and pieces... sorry I don't know what I'm talking about.

Help please... what do I do?

First welcome to CCF. Second, no matter what else you do, don't clean any of your coins. Third, if you take pics and post them in separated threads, then we can help you identify and/or grade your coins.

For example your Roman coins could be posted in this forum:

Even if you accidentally start a thread on the wrong thread, the mods can help move things around to the optimal location.

Navigating the CCF photo-uploading process can be a little tough at first, so here is a link to that tutorial:

I look forward to seeing what you have there!

As an alternative to listing all the coins on here, if you let on roughly where in the UK you are, maybe you could arrange to meet up with other collectors and learn more that way/

Depending how he has kept these organizing and cataloging the coins and notes is a good first step. The good news is it doesn't have to cost a lot, there is a lot of information online and you can enter the details you find on a spreadsheet with things like country of origin, type, mintage, and other information.

As said don't clean anything and if you can find some way to protect or organize them this is much better than having them thrown in a jar knocking against each other.
