I think there is some weakness to the rim opposite the defect but I'm not sure if this is purposeful damage or a clipped planchet

Not a fake. It's legitimate, as it shows every signs of a real Clipped Planchet. The Blakesley Effect is there too.

Looks legit to me. The letter that I see fading is the 'A' on the last image. The Blaksely is there and the blank looks like it was cut from the obverse to the reverse side according to what I see on the coin. Great images.

Time to educate me... The edges looked filed to me is why I said not legitimate... I need to research Blakesley effect..

Well that's exciting, I could see it through the bag so I pulled it out. I wasn't planning on going through them today but now I might have to.

Blakesley effect = light strike opposite the clipped area basically.. Ok

Now can someone explain the filed look I see? Also it looks far to clean to me on the actual clipped edge for the other circulation marks I see on the rest of the coin? I don't doubt the guys that have the knowledge just trying to understand...
