I haven't noticed many posts about asian currencies here and wondered if anyone has or is interested in the different types of coins that Thailand has.
The monetary unit is Thai Baht, and comes in coin denominations of 10, 5, 2(rarely seen),1 baht and 50 & 25 satang(100 satangs=1Baht). There are smaller denoms,(1,5&10 satang) but are very rarely seen and are often rejected at smaller shops for their lack of value.
One $Aus will convert to just under 28 Thai Baht today and also just under 35$US. Real good for us.
Thai coins are primarily cupronickel, but the 10 Baht coin is a stunning bi-metal cupronickel/alluminium bronze, and has many commemorative varieties. These are the most widely used in trade.
In the future I hope to post some images of the different coins in my collection,(haven't got that part sussed out yet), and have a few other asian countries coinage that I'm looking to add to as well.

G'day, I was last in Thailand about 10 years ago. There is a cricket comp in Chiang Mai, around easter.
I'm thinking about going back soon: several friends have retired to there; and my neighbour has latched onto some very cheap fares ($220 Darwin-Phuket-return).
I've kept a few coins from my visits. But that was during a time when my interest in coins was at a low point.
When I was first there, I was very confused, as old coins were still circulating. They were much larger than the more modern ones. Because they didn't use our numerals, I didn't get a clue from that. And King Rama, a.k.a. Bhumibol, has reigned since 1946, so all the portraits were very similar.
I look forward to any pics you post, so I can identify what I've got.
If I go again, I'll make sure I get a good representative sample of current coins.

Peter, if you post some pics of the Thai coins you have, I can date them for you if you'd like. I can read Thai numerals so it wouldn't be a problem
