I think your right,just wear and tear from being around soooo long. But how cool is it to get a 102 year old coin in change back..

Thanks I agree, I am/was pretty sure it's just smushed, but I've looked at maybe 10 other pennies so confirmation was helpful.

I always look at my change and I spend alot of dollar coins so I probably get more than average. This is the second 1917 I've found this year.and a.steel penny a week or so ago. I honestly would rather have an old coin I've found in bad condition than buy a perfect one.
