I've seen many toned coins that I thought were beautiful, and I own a few. But I'm not an expert, so a toned coin would have to be in a holder from PCGS, NGC or ANACS for me to consider buying it. I'm not talking about a silver dollar with a little brown around the rims. I'm talking about coins with blues and greens and purple and so on. The only way I'd buy a coin like that uncertified was if I had access to a professional grader. Which, most of the time, I don't.
