Came across this coin. It appears to be a proof. What grade in your opinion? Thank you for your insight.

Properly oriented pictures help. Better lighting would help, too.
Withholding judgement for now.

Agree, larger pics that show the surface details well would be helpful.

I'm not going to wait for larger pics . At least PF-64 . Higher would not surprise me .

If the dark areas on the cheek isn't hiding anything I'd be at PF 64, Eye Appeal 8/10.
The other possible area of concern is in the right field of the obverse. Notice that at the centers of that area the color is hazy. That could be the toning only, but it could also indicate severe polishing.
Unless I could buy this coin at a "gamble" price I'd probably pass myself. What you can't see usually is a wolf in the woods.
Otherwise, MUCH better photos would be needed for a proper evaluation without all the quests work.

I didn't catch that either other than to mention what the dark might hide.
If that scratch is anywhere near as severe as it looks from the little that shows, it would kick it in to a details, scratched and or damaged.

This coin has most likely been played with. It is most likely not a proof but a well-struck business strike.
Besides the gouge between the eye and the lip the obverse field is cloudy. The obverse stars look like they may be artificially frosted The reverse stars look normal. The coin has been cleaned multiple times in my opinion.
The purple/brown toning on both sides is the result of a poor rinse following the old Jewelustre dip....probably a few dips over the years, too. (Why can't people properly rinse it after playing with it? If you dip, you rinse it good!)
Wonder how many times this little "gem" has been seen by the grading services?

I'm no Barber half dollar Proof expert but I find it very hard to believe that it's a Business strike . What you say Mox ?

Surface detail still washed out in these pics. I'll pass.

Appreciate the input. I agree. The coin does seem off now that you point it out. I will pass on this one.
