I saw this shortly after they came out. I had a few rolls I looked through when they were released and I saw what I thought to be Machine Doubling in that area...so I tossed them in the spend jar. After hearing about these and then seeing some pics, I think the ones I had were the same. Luckily I had not spent them yet so I retrieved them. I'll see if I can get some pics of mine here, but it is pretty minor as far as DDO's go. If I cannot get good ones here I will get some under the scope Tuesday at the shop and get them on here Tuesday night If I can.

It is my understanding that the "single squeeze" method of impressing the working dies that is now used was supposed to eliminate the possibility of doubling. Turns out that if the Hub is not perfectly aligned horizontally it can cause this sort of Doubling (mostly near the center of the coin) as it flattens. I think this is why you get doubled ear Lincolns, and doubled columns and knees.

Put a few I have under the scope, they are not the same as the one I saw previously, but they are in the same area. I originally thought they were machine doubled, but there is no evidence of that on any other regions of the reverse or obverse.

The first picture is one I got when I first heard of these (CONECA website I think) it has the doubling on the saddle horn.

The next one I have a few of, the doubling definitely has some depth to it and is not flat...but very minor

I only found one of these. The doubling is very flat, but quite wide. Not sure what happened here, or why no other parts of the coin are affected. Seems to me that a shift of that magnitude would show up somewhere else on the coin...

I only found one of these also. The doubling is very faint and hard to see with the glare- best I could do. This one is doubled at the front of the saddlehorn.
