I'm not seeing any doubling, can you try a slightly less amount of zoom, and show the whole coin as well? Both obverse and reverse photos.

hmmm no sorry, they are photos from a microscope. I don't have the camera to do so. Are you saying those fine edge around the outside are not double die? can you see the top of the coin stops then an edge has been produce just below?

Most proof coins are struck multiple times, this I think may be what you are seeing, but not from a doubled hub master from what I can tell from the photos.

If the TPG's used microscopes to grade there would NEVER be MS-70 coins. If you can't see doubling with a loupe then it's not numismatically significant. Doubling should be easily viewable at 3x-5x with a 10x look occasionally just to be sure.

Hi, it's a 1915 half eagle. thanks for your time. I also have reservations that the layering shows signs of a proof, but as you know it's now over 100 years of age and I think it has hit circulation. what brought my attention to it was weird criss cross scratches over the face when light is passed over it, and I wanted to know who would clean a coin with such malice. Dr. google has lead me here

Yes I know how rear that sort of coin is, in proof. Dr. google is all seeing and has the power to fool unwary travelers

ok, here is how far I have got so far, 1915 half eagle-check, sandblasting on face-check:but some confusion on whether the die was sandblasted or the coin, double dieing from proof process-checkish, dirty coin where no one can tell the difference from possible circulation and just age-double check the check check checky.

I's still like to see the entire coin. I doubt what your seeing is doubling though.
