Just looks like a Denver mint mark to me. What are your concerns?

I may be calling it the wrong thing but the letter stamped under the face is indistinguishable. Isn't that the mint mark

No - the mintmark is to the bottom left of the torch on the reverse - in this case, D for Denver.

Silver coin. Worth at least melt. Some damage, from probably a vending machine. Soda can or bottles were ten cents then. (2 cent deposit for bottles)

Under Roosevelt's bust is The designer's initials. "JS" are the initials of the Mint's Chief Engraver, John Sinnock.

Mint mark is on reverse, designers initials are on obverse. It is a 90% silver coin!
