Is there any with SMS experience that would like to assess this 1964 Kennedy 1/2 Dollar?

To me the rim is square and the 4 has the little mark on the tale. Just wanted some feed back from the coin community experts.

Thank you coin community for your time.

No need. This is a VLDS coin. All the SMS were EDS coins. On the '4' you can see Machine Doubling from a medium bounce after the strike. Still worth silver melt.

Interesting. Ok.
I'm still going to send a full pick of both sides.
My optimistic self can't help but wonder if this could be a new variety.

Thank you for your time and knowledge

I'm thinking no, pretty sure the mark you are looking for under the 4 is raised.

Here is an image showing the different types of 1964 halves for that year:

The example on the lower right is the SMS. Note how it has more of a matte finish on the strike. The 1965-1967 halves had the SMS finish on them. Just a few (less than 100) were put in sets and only certain ones in the mint received these. SO chances are very slim they will be found in circulation. But what to look for for EDS die state?

An EDS coin means it it one of 12K that was struck by the fresh new die. How do they look different?

Note looking at this one. Note how the fields have very little if any disturbance. The devices are all fresh and full.
As the die ages, it looses it freshness:

Note the example on the right? That is a 1964 SMS half dollar.

Just a few contact marks from circulation. But do you see how sweet this coin looks?

I've seen these EDS coins on here presented as a doubled die. But they were not. They just looked so good the finder wishes it was something. Then I tell them it is a EDS coin:

Even looking closer and closer, you can see the beauty of the die:

Now to what they end up looking like as the die ages:

It is a gradual process:

But before a die is retired, it goes through life doing its job and aging.
Hope this helps.

The B has the same mark as the sms example.

The coin looks like it has a satin finish

The lighting made the coin look like it has Machine Doubling.

Kennedy's nose is struck well.
