Hello everyone.. I am trying to find out if US Mint medals fall under the normal orientation guidelines for coins. If I am looking at the obverse and flip the medal should it be facing up as a normal US Mint coin?

Thank you in advance for any input.

Good question.
A true medal like military awards have "medal turn", i.e., top is up when turned sideways.

Don't know about non-military medals.
Probably have to surf them up to see what the specs are.

I can tell you that the 2019 American Liberty Medal I just purchased is Medal Turn or side turn face up. I assume it was meant to be that way.

That is the medal I was curious about. I also obtained the 2019 High Relief Silver version. Good to know. First medal in my collection. Thanks for the feedback.

All I know is that when both sides are facing the same direction, that's called "medal alignment." When the sides are opposite, that's "coin alignment." So, I assume, pieces considered medals should have both sides facing the same. I'm not sure how true that is, though, in practice.

I'm not really a medal guy, but all medals I've encountered have "medal turn". But of course not all coins have "coin turn".
Rest in Peace

I've purchased a couple recent medals that I include in my modern commemorative set (I know, I know - not the same thing).

There have been a few of the silver ounce medals with really lovely designs. When you can get them in TPG 70 for less than double silver, why not?
