Is there a list or reference for varieties and errors in Australian pre-decimal and decimal notes? Eg different colours, lines missing etc.

Best you will find is publications from Mick Vort Ronald that list all the different varieties of notes. Not sure about error notes though.

Very few pre=decimal errors around mostly serial number errors. Don't think there's to many banknote noodlers around. IAG auctions Queensland tend to get a lot of decimal banknote errors in there auctions...

McDonald's should list all the varieties I think.
I agree that there is not much in the way of errors - mismatched numbers and inverted stars on star notes are the ones that come to mind.

What about misaligned colours? Do they exist?

YES they exist..Missing background + main print. Colour variations. The hardestto see are the one's with a very very minor error..Be very wary of DOCTORED notes as there's heaps of them around....Colours removed or changed by chemicals....
