Today I sold some Lincolns for the first time at a coin show. I sold them to a guy who I buy a lot of my coins from, it went fairly well. I put each one into an 2X2 and labeled it with my grade (I was conservative) and then put current greysheet pricing on it. I took in around 20 coins and he bought them all except a 31-S I had that was cleaned.

I am posting this as I was a little nervous about doing it and thought others might find it helpful. He paid me greysheet bid on all of them and only disagreed on one of my grades.

I actually traded in my coins, I bought a 09-S IH for my sons collection, only one more to go, a 1877! I also picked up these 2-

I let him know that what I brought was only the tip of the iceberg, I sold everything from a VG 13-D to MS64-5's teens, twenties and thirties. I also had a couple 40's in MS. I was not sure what grades or dates he might be looking for so I took in a little of everything. It is time to "thin the herd", I have been thinking that my collection has gotten ridicules and beyond taming. I went to look for some 2X2's and found unopened rolls I forgot I had and tons of other stuff I have forgot all about. I even found unopened packages, I guess I should open them and leave some feedback?

After our transaction he was wondering if I would help him at some of the upcoming shows, I was like "Heck ya!". He said I could even bring in some of my cents to sell, buy some from people and just help out.

I will let you guys know what shows I will be doing, I figured it will be a nice learning experience. I usually take November and December off of work to relax from the busy year (plus I do retail work so it is real slow of me) and this will be a nice change of pace.

Anyways, just thought I would share, and look forward to maybe meeting some of you guys and upcoming shows.

Nice looking Lincolns. I love the tone on the 1927!

I hope you have a wonderful experience working with him at the coins shows!

I can't wait to go to my first coin show. I need to find something close to Philadelphia.

chrsb: You do realize that if you don't tell us where those shows are the chances of meeting any of us is rather slim. For example if those coin shows are in China, I won't go. If in Germany, I might consider it but not likely. If in Arkansas, I for sure won't go there. Hope no one from Arkansas read this.
Not sure but is the location of those coin shows a secret?
Consider yourself lucky to find a dealer that will deal with you fairly. Most dealers at coin shows are there to make as much money as possible and giving you a decent price for your coins is not necessarily in their best interest.

I love Arkansas! No rat race, good folks and great coin buys.

Sorry guys, Michigan, South East to be exact. I am unsure which ones I will be doing with him, he is going to give me a call when he needs help. I am excited to help, it will be interesting to watch the people at these from a different view. There is a big show coming up, just do not know when it is, he mentioned needing help at that one.

If you check with Google and type in coin shows and your state, there is a lot of them for Michigan. Also, a few large ones in the Illinois area.

It is a whole different world on "the-other-side" of the table. It gets exciting with people come up and have a genuine interest in your items for sale.

It gets even MORE exciting when they buy something.

Not every dealer is out to scalp the crowd... I try to educate and sell at a fair market price. After all, it isn't FREE to set up and sell. Dealers have lots of overhead.
