Rest in Peace

Nice condition but I agree with CoinCollector2012 .
BTW It's a 1943-D . 1443 would be awfully rare .

i hear your responses but I'm curious what would you think the grading of it would be for something like this also what would it be worth for the ms grade. Its a matter of finding out if it would make a difference. I think any coin with better ms grade has a value though I wonder if I'm wrong on that and I'm sure its also based on years but how does one really know to grade based on year Sorry I know its alot.

All old coins are really worth something and that one is worth a lot to a new collector. Value is not the important thing here, it's the collectors coin that is all important and worth whatever is important.

just carl- If thats so then your saying theres no basis on coin values? Why get a RedBook or search check coins then when all you have to do is post a picture of everycoin you ever get and thats that. Is that what we should be doing then? Forgive me if I'm wrong it seems to me thats the very next step from you last statement as a coin seller. What should I do then ignore the books? Or just post pictures of everycoin? I'm legit trying to know if I'm waisting my time trying to score coins based on grading and errors and mettals am I spendig too much time on the wrong things

Lionel90 right though I am trying to find a basis that will be fair to the buyer and seller. I mean like this person is asking. I would like to know what would make this penny valuable?... and why it isn't. This is to help understand better. Its weird I know sorry.

Your question about what makes a penny valuable and these are the things
1) Rarity - as an example the 1909 S VDB and the 1931 S were both made with less than a million examples of each. So they are rarer than the average Penny, henceforth they have more worth.
2) Condition - now this also works with rarity. As an example the 1914 D will be more costly depending on condition than the 1931 S and the reason is that while more 1914 D were made, they weren't snapped up and henceforth many got circulated so a MS/AU 1914 D can sell for more than the 1931 S and even the 1909 S VDB as many of the S VDB were saved.
3) Desirability - you can have the most rare penny in the world and if it isn't desired by anyone else it's only worth 1 cent.
4) and this is the most important- the value of anything is only worth what someone else wants to pay for it. List a 1909 SVDB for $100 and you'll get a bidding war. List it for $2000 and it might never sell or wait a long time.

The above reminds of a story the LCS tells. A person comes in with a complete 50 states quarter album in circulated condition. They ask the LCS what it's worth and the LCS says it's worth $12.50

And the person selling goes, why so little? I mean everyone collects these, the coins are pretty and I have a complete set.

And the LCS goes, you are correct on all 3 counts and it's only worth $12.50 as EVERYONE has one. They aren't rare. It's the same with the 1943 penny.

I have 11 examples of 1943 Steel pennies as extras plus 3 sets (pds) of AU/BU that I keep in folders. I like the way they look but I wouldn't pay much for 1.

alright so value goes to above all els is desirability that is rare this is why its important for people to keep watching how much a person is willing to pay for another coin. ITs starting to paint the picture. These responses were helpful.
