Quote:If the MM shows Machine Doubling would or would not the date show it also? No. MD can show only in one area. Quote: I've looked all over including NGC and I cant find an error for this year. There might be a good reason for that. John1

Dugupdandys, can't expect me to get everything right. I am right most of the time, but mistakes are occasionally made still. I still a very knowledgeable member. Been doing this for almost 3 years straight. Also, the mintmark doesn't show a Doubled Die at all, sorry, just Machine Doubling. And here's what the mintmark looks like on the 1995 D Doubled Die Obverse. A genuine Doubled Die enlarges the size of the mintmark, while Machine Doubling reduces it. http://doubleddie.com/506234.html

Interesting coin. While I can't tell from the photos which what it is, I wouldn't rule out a D/D west. It would, of course, be a very rare thing since there is a strong DDO on the date for this year and so that area gets checked pretty much by everyone that looks for varieties and one hasn't been found some 35 years after the coins were minted. Not impossible, but would be a remarkable find. Anyway, a true west D/D can be tough to determine. There is still some debate about whether the 1927-D DDO-003 has an RPM or just something that looks like one. People disagree and Wexler lists it as WRPM-005 while CONECA does not list it at all. For comparison, the most similar actual RPM I know of is the 1953-D/D RPM-001. So here is an image of it just for something to maybe compare to. Good luck and hoping for the best with your find.

It could very well be a D/D West, but it's tough to tell. Any way we could get some better pictures of the Mint Mark? It looks like Machine Doubling, but better pics could help. Best of luck! -CH27

Dugupdandys.....I agree with you! This looks like an obvious DD! I'm no expert by far but wow, those last pictures show it really doubled especially in the middle of the D you can see the body of the first D? I hope you got something NEW buddy, that would mean I'll have to go back through all my big pile to look for this error! I say congrats and good eye! Sarge

Quote: it would be better if you knew what the heck you were talking about. That answer makes me question what you said about mine. I got my glasses on.. obvious Doubble Die mint mark in first picture.. @Dugupdandys How would a doubled die affect a mintmark?

Just a reminder: mint marks were applied by hand to each working die prior to 1990.The 1995-D DDO,the mint mark "and" date as well as the lettering is doubled. This all factors in on the 1984-D as to weather it is or isn't a doubled die obverse. Maybe we need Mike on this? John1
