I'm not seeing it. Perhaps there are other indications of the variety with the L.

moxking, this is the best I could do. I circled the area where I believe the L to be. Its also in the correct area of the ribbon. The only indicator that I am aware of is it was only supposed to be on the narrow bust version, this cent is the wide bust version. In all fairness it may be just a ding that looks an awful lot like an L.

Looks copper-nickel not bronze. Also can you get a close up of the date and the weight? 4.67, CuNi; 3.11 bronze. A few repunched dates for that year.

Finn, I've checked, it's a normal dated cent. I have only one repunched dated cent and it's an 1898. It's weight is 2.74 grams.

I'm afraid that what you see is "wishful thinking." I just cannot see it.

Like I said in a previous post, it probably took a ding making it appear to be an L on the ribbon. fplagge, I don't wish for anything when it comes to coins. If I see an anomaly, I'll ask a question about it.

Kinda looks like it might be a CN cent to me as well. Can you give us the weight - this will quickly determine whether it even might be a BR "L" cent.

Coinfrog, it weighs 2.74 grams my friend. It's definitely bronze. But, it's not the narrow bust variety where they first started minting the L on the ribbon.

Have you tried looking at it in black and white?

Good suggestion John. And don't forget to go near max contrast, too.

Thanks for the weight, it's a BR for sure. But I think you'd have hard time convincing a potential buyer this is the "L" version, so it effectively ends up in the "no L" pile. Also, it looks cleaned. Let me ask you - would you pay "L" money to re-acquire it?

Coinfrog, let me look at it in black in white first before I answer that question!

All in, I'd say a cleaned "details" example of the "no L" BR 1864 cent.
