The size of the device is reduced as seen in Machine Doubling. It also shows doubling pushing to the rim of the coin as seen in Die Deterioration Doubling. Doubled dies usually show as full rounded elements in addition to the main element, where these are flat and shelf like. On the heavier doubled dies, 1955 DDO 1¢, 1969-S DDO 1¢ etc, you can see lots of separation between the main design element and the secondary doubled image in one direction on the coin.
