Hi, I have a small coin collection but have never collected paper currency. I was given a $100 gold certificate with a serial number that begins with a star. When I looked online it appears these are somewhat rare. Can anyone provide any advice on the value/should I take it to a dealer/ get it graded? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I would definitely take this to a reputable dealer for submission to PMG. This a very valuable note indeed. to the Paper Money forum!

Holy stuff wow!! Ok yes take that guy to a coin store ASAP or if you don't trust them, submit to PMG your self. Are you accepting offers on that piece?

Very nice. Fr.2405* 1928 $100 Gold Certificate replacement note.
Get it graded. Just the difference between VF and XF can be several thousand dollars.

Thank you for your posts. I'm embarrassed to say I've had this for years and just noticed the star yesterday and wondered what it meant. It sounds like this is much more valuable than I thought and I should take in to a coin store to get more information.

That stain on the back is unfortunate. The skinny lower margin on the front is echoed on the back. Still a VERY desirable note. If I owned it, I'd be tempted to have that stain professionally removed.

Do you any of you have a broad range of what this might be worth. The only website I saw mentioned $2,500 as a starting point. I wasn't planning to sell it but depending on what it worth it might allow me to buy some other coins I'm more interested. Thanks again for all the comments.

I would be willing to purchase. However 2500 is too much especially for the grade. $1500 would be fair price. May not be a number you want to hear but that's what most will pay.

Sorry, I'm new to this and actually don't have plans of selling at this time. I was just trying to get a better idea of what I had as I don't have much knowledge about paper money.
