Hello all! I've been a longtime fan of this forum, but this is my first post. In my 2015 proof set, the Sacagawea dollar coin seems to have a significant doubling in the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST". You can clearly see the word GOD and the R in TRUST superimposed over the existing inscription. There are also some streaks to the left of Sacagawea's profile. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, they were taken through the plastic of the mint set. I'm curious what you all think! Thanks :)

Thanks! I had no idea Machine Doubling could shift the devices so far across the coin!

Took a second look, and I am seeing what John1 is seeing. Not sure what that is.

It's a strange one - such a small section is replicated, and at an odd angle.

I'm thinking the second strike of a prior coin was done out of place, and left a mark on the die,

I'm headed to a coin show next weekend, and I think CONECA has a table there. I'll stop by with the set and let you know what I find out!

This was discussed here a while back. If your coin is in a capsule or 2x2 you may be seeing the devices being reflected back onto the coin's surface from the cover material. It can be seen in her hair also. With such reflective surfaces and strong cameo effect, it can play tricks. I would suggest viewing the coin outside of the holder and see if it's still there.
Now, if it isn't in a holder...
Edit: I went back and reread your post. The coin is still in the OGP. So don't remove it unless you're so inclined. Maybe try rotating the angle of view and see if the doubling "moves".

I think it's in the encapsulation and not on the coins actual surface. I hope I am wrong but I can't see that being on the coin itself.

Yes, I see now... Jim.
It was originally set in the encapsulation and it rubbed the capsule on the high points of the devices... then the coin shifted counter clockwise in it holder. The doubling is on etched into the capsule ;) Makes sense... sorry but I fear when or if it ever comes out of the capsule it will not be there.
You could try to jar it a bit and get it move further in the capsule to tell if it moves it position, to help convince yourself without removing it...

Jim figured it out! I got impatient and cracked it open. Unfortunately there is no doubling on the coin. There is a clear imprint of GOD and R on the plastic encapsulation!
Oh well! That was exciting for a few days. :)
