The two I have on my shelf for early american coins are:
1) Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins (what you are looking at)

2) Early Coins of America - Sylvester Crosby

Another great source, aside from a book, would be from a true expert in Colonials. The late Eric P. Newman. Check out the link below and enjoy.

The Whitman book is fantastic, I think now OOP though, and prices are rising. If you find one for under $45 grab it, I've sold a few at close to $100 recently, I still have a few left and have put them away for later sales or trades. There are quite a few good books on Colonials, though most are pretty expensive ($75+) and quite specialized. Check out the link above go to the drop down menu on periodicals and note the C4 (Colonial Collectors club journals) many older issues are available now for free and download.
