I noticed today that the Mint now has a price listed for this set (Product 19RX, will be released on 31 Oct - Halloween).

I'm not sure whether this is a Trick or Treat

The price is $29.95 for the set (proof ATB Quarters and a $2 FRN). You can get the regular ATB proof set for $15.95 and a Lucky Panda $2 for $12.88 for a total of $28.83, a $1.12 less than the Youth Coin and Currency Set.

I would think the packaging costs would be comparable, so why the $1.12 in extra cost

The Mint wants to try and attract new, young collectors but IMHO they aren't going about it very well. They limit these young collector products to 25,000 sets and now they're charging a premium as well.

They know some sets will be sent to NGC or PCGS for the special provenance labels.

If they make it into registry sets with low distribution some collectors who want EVERYTHING will be after them.

If they were making these when I was a kid I'm not sure how I would've felt about them honestly. I appreciate what they're trying to do, but they come off as an out-of-touch old man trying to be hip for the kids and failing lol. I also agree on the mintage limit and premium being immense turn offs for new consumers, really wish they weren't doing that.

Searching for old dates with my grandpa really helped get me into the hobby. I feel if they offered bags or rolls of circulated cents for next to no premium, grandparents would eat that up and kids would be thrilled to look through those.

Unless there ends up being something unique about the quarters that they're not disclosing, I don't see the set selling much at all and ending up being worth less than half of the issue price within two years.
