I just purchased this coin. I think it is attractive, but notice that there are striations on the obverse in a ENE direction and with negative slope on reverse. I'm not sure if it's toning, scratches or a die characteristic. I would appreciate feedback and grade opinions. These are seller's pics.

My guess is the planchet - but I'm not the expert.

Looks like improperly mixed alloy.

I agree w/frog. Perhaps I'm an odd-bird, but I like the streaking, there's really no 2 pieces alike.

Common on nickel and copper is improperly mixed alloy in the creation of the ingots that get pressed and rolled out into planchet strips. In the Lincoln Cent community they call these woodies, and are coveted by some collectors, not so much in the nickel alloys though I think many look quite attractive myself.

VF-30. Eye Appeal 7/10 this grade. The planchet variation does not affect eye appeal nor value.

This is a weakly struck coin. It's not wear on III but weak spots. I think this one is either EF-40 or 45 but can't tell for sure with the photos.
