I was at MS64+ until I noticed the staple scratch on the obverse. I think it may be severe enough to details this one...

MS64, but details would bring it down to MS62 value, or thereabouts.
Still quite a nice coin, anyways.

the 83CC is known for above average strikes and this one falls into that. minor abrasions small scratches but nothing major. multiple die cracks. a little luster missing on cheek. MS64+. a 65 holder would not surprise me at all

First I had to decide what the luster breaks on the obverse are. Handling marks or bag marks? Since I don't see any on the reverse I'll go with handling marks. That makes it AU-something (55 or 58).
If the referenced "staple scratch on the obverse" is what's at 10 o'clock I'll need a better image of that area. Or was the reference to the scratch in the hair?
What I like (and no one mentioned) are the die cracks on both sides.
There is a reasonable chance that the coin is from the GSA hoard. That would explain a lot of the marks.

I will have to go with MS-63 on this due to scratch in the ear. Otherwise it would obtain 64-65 Might even get detailed due to that scratch.

I've been looking at GSA certified 1883 CC and the die marks on the back in the letters, and the mark between the right wing and leaves match exactly. But I am skeptical, how could I wind up with a GSA hoard coin, I thought all those were put in GSA certified holders and sold out by the same company. I bought this coin raw from an estate sale.

Unfortunate long scratch though the hair and ear, otherwise could have been a 65. Now possibly details. Those marks on the reverse are die cracks and die clash marks, and the exact same markings can be found on both GSA hoard coins and non-GSA coins. Also, many GSA Morgans were broken out of their case, so it's possible that this might have been a GSA coin anyway.

Very high end MS-64. Might get a 65 slab.
