Hello everyone. I am new to coin collecting, and have a lot to learn.

I ordered a couple of new rolls of 2019 half dollars from the US Mint recently. I received this 2019 D in the middle of one of my rolls. On one of the "L's" there is a very distinct separation in the middle of it. Is this a DDR? If not, what kind of damage is it?

I tried to make both images right-side up, but one kept reverting back to upside-down (sorry).

While this look interesting, why would just one device be affected if it is a doubled die? Seem more like damage to me.

Thank you JBUCK.

COOP, I just re-looked at the roll it came from, and for sure this is the only coin that had this type of damage on it. Nothing remarkable about any other coin I got.

Sometimes in an OBW roll, you will find other examples from the same dies. So check for another coin with the same die markers to see if other examples are in the same roll without that mark on them? Then you will know it is damage for sure. A marker could be any die event. Die crack/die scratches/die chip.

Awesome! I just learned something. Thank you COOP! Once I get a moment to inspect the others more in-depth I will let you know.

Since this is the first time I ever tried to identify die markers on a coin it was quite a challenge. I noticed that it's always easier to see distinguishing marks on dirtier coins than on shiny new coins like what I have.

Coming from an amateur, I couldn't find any similarities in markings between my abnormal coin and any of the normal coins.
