Hi Everyone! Please forgive my ignorance, error coins hunting has become something I only do when I'm mad at my husband and I need a little break and something to focus on. He laughs at me about this, so I really feel ridiculous asking about this coin. Is a 1944 S Penny and yes, it is heavily beat up. But it's the date they kept catching my eye. To me it looks like something else is going on other than damage. Especially under the 44. Am I just looking too hard? Because,it's highly possible ,he really ticked me off today LOL *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

And please forgive the lack of clarity on the photos, I have the note 9, as much as they charge for the darn following you would think it would take better pictures #128566;. I was trying to upload photos of the whole coin and for some reason it will not let me, even with their image optimizer

I see nothing but damage from normal circulation wear and tear. No errors here. Just PSD.
Errers and Varietys.

@keiko, first welcome to CCF. Second, while taking a break from your spouse can be relaxing, I hope you find that he is supportive of your hobby. With regard to this '44-S Wheat cent, I don't see anything in particular about the date which looks unusual, even when I lighten it. Perhaps you can describe what you are seeing with the coin in hand?

This coin is an exceptionally rare Abramem Abe variety worth in excess of $50,000. . . . . . . . . Just show your husband the above sentence

Could be PMD but the second 4 appears peculiar at the top need a better clear photo of the whole front of the coin for best results from forum members.

Lol, thank you everybody for your input I'm sure it's just damage. It look like the 4s were stamped over top of something

@k71, good question as there is a vaguely S-shaped area northwest of the D mintmark on this new cent. However, if you look on varietyvista, or one of the other online RPM/OMM websites, you won't see one listed for the 1974-D cents. This may be damage or something else, but my money is on it not being a D/S mintmark.
Also, it is not a big deal, but best practice is to start a new thread with each new coin--that helps us when we are searching for a specific coin. Thanks!
