Is this considered Cud and if so...does it get there from voids in the die (chips)? Seems unusual that it's in so many places on this one or, is it pretty common? Don't know about the minor mark by the torch or the filled-in O on the reverse either.

I always thought a Cud was where part of the edge of the die broke off.

These would be die chips.

From the looks of things, someone used it as a shuttlecock on a concrete court.

I'd like to see a picture of the full obverse and then a picture of the full reverse.

I suspect evidence of die clashes, not die chips.

Thanks,
Bill

I'm thinking a start to a lamination error. Something in the clad.

Those look to me to be marks left after the dies clashed. They are not chips, cracks, or a lamination error of any kind.

The marks line up with the details on the reverse when they are placed in the correct orientation.

Two dies came together with no planchet between them. Details were transfered from one die to another.

If you don't see any marks on the reverse of the coin it would be that the reverse die needed to be replaced.

Thanks,
Bill

These are areas of die erosion. It's an occasional side-effect of Die Deterioration. The raised areas are variously referred to as "patches" and "blebs".
