I have two notes that appear to be ROC notes for 200 and 500 yuan; however, I have not been able to locate any images that match these notes, but they do have similarities with notes of the pre-WWII period up to the establishment of the People's Republic. (I found the notes among other things in a box in storage. I think they may come down from my father, who was stationed in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII.)

Can anyone help identify these notes and any value they may have, either as collectors' items (doubtful, as they're not in very good condition) or as inherent value (i.e., could be exchanged for US currency)?

I apologize for the size of the images, but I wanted to have clear pictures to offer.

These notes are listed in my Pick world banknote catalogue as coming from the 1945 series, and they are dated to that year - the small string of 9 characters in between the two red square seals on the front of the 200 yuan says "Year 34 of the Republic of China". Neither are particularly scarce; in that condition, you'd probably pay 50¢ or $1 each for them from a dealer.

As for face / exchange value, there basically isn't any. The Nationalists ended up losing the civil war, and the Nationalist yuan suffered from severe hyperinflation as the war progressed. In 1948, the old yuan was replaced by the "gold yuan" at a rate of 3 million to one. Finally, just before the mainland fell, the gold yuan was replaced with the "silver yuan" at a rate of 500 million to one. Finally, once they shifted to Taiwan, the ROC demonetised it's old money. Of course, the Communists never accepted them.

Thanks for the quick and thorough response, Sap! I figured they probably didn't have much value, either face or as collectibles, but was overcome by curiosity, one of my great failings.

These are Central Bank of China notes.

Actually the 200 yuan bank note is year 33 or 1944.
