Please check this coin I got a week ago, not sure if it's real as the 1878 Philadelphia should be a proof only and this doesn't seems to be one.

First of all, does it have the correct weight?

Here are a variety of tests to see if it's real silver.

Circulated proof-only Trade dollars 1878-1883 are not uncommon, but this is an unbelievable steal if it's genuine. But I know nothing of these.

I have serious doubts on the genuineness. The rims and denticles are off.

Does not look "right". Highly suspicious of this coin. Pretty sure it is counterfeit.
Rest in Peace

Has that fakey-fake China look. Does it stick to a magnet? I've read there are some lightly circulated (AU) examples out there but I doubt any this worn. The rim is a dead giveaway tho. Gotta be careful with Trade dollars buying them raw.

The toning looks typical of a counterfeit. The figures look like casting, without the sharpness of a die strike. Look at the stars, which resemble holiday cookies.

But the really hideous part is the eagle's peg leg. This bears no resemblance to the real coins shown on the PCGS site.

The real tip off are the raised lumps by the point of the 1 and in the field right of the date. Those would not be there on a proof.

Counterfeits are often made from silver and can be the correct weight. You need to try and get your money back. The coin is not a circulated proof as noted the denticles are wrong and the coin has cast bumps that are typical for counterfeits.
