Hello,

In my box of nickels I had a healthy 40 or so 2005 nickels and was looking for a speared bison. Unfortunately I did not find one, but I found this coin instead. It's the grazing bison with the "E" on "NEM" covered and illegible. It vaguely reminds me of the Arizona State Quarter error. It was hard to get proper pictures, but I hope these will do! I also added a picture for comparison for what is probably considered normal for the NEM initial.

Thanks,
Lunar

Lunaricide to CCF!

Yes, the initial is covered by a die chip on this coin too.

FYI: Try not to post pictures that are upside down or inverted. Thanks

Thanks both of you!

You're right, I didn't think about upside down pictures at all. I thought it might show a different vantage point, but I can move the lights around to do the same thing. I'll be more mindful of that with future pictures.

Just a tiny Die Chip. Happens very often on the Nickels.

I'll definitely get better at this after a few more boxes of coins! Thank you everyone.

Also the chip was flattened in circulation. (Possibly when the coins were rolled up or another event happened. The die had a piece of the die chip away. When that happens, then the planchet metal fills in that area on the die, leaving a raised area on the device/s. Happens a lot on the newer dies, but also happen on the older dies as well.
