Hi all! I'm going through my first batch of nickles, and I spotted this. I apologize for the glare, so I tried to tilt the coin a bit to see it better; I think I see a raised part in the doorway—what do you all think?

The top right of the inside of the main doorway—there is a slight raised but not seen on the other coins I've searched, let me highlight it

Well it is not part of a clash:

If it is a DDR, it would probably be minor.

I've just checked a few more rolls, I have found ~15 nickels with this same thing, kind of neat. I think I'm going to pull them aside for now. I couldn't match up any markers from known varieties (they mostly have an extra bar/piece to the left instead of the right like mine are), but it is also hard to take the proper photos with my set up, dimming the light until almost off does almost no help to the glare I experience with these newer nickels

Try moving you light back just a bit. (I'm not talking feet, just inches. Very slowly. If you are using a scope, try to focus on the fields, not the tops of the devices. focusing on tops of the devices makes the fields out of focus. So focus on the field.

Looks better. It cuts the glare and makes the light and shadow desired look. On the full images you need a diffuse to reduce glare. That way you can get the desired light. For full shots I use a setup like this:

I usually make a circle of other coins around the image to show the true color of the coin:
Scope lighting:

I also use a ramp to angle the light into the scope:
Starting-Nickles-For-The-First-Time!-2019-P-Possible-DDR?
I keep the open end at 6:00 under the scope with the light at 12:00
Starting-Nickles-For-The-First-Time!-2019-P-Possible-DDR?
If the angle needs increase I add a coin or two under the ramp.
I added papers to prevent unwanted light off the coin when using the scope:

(Excuse the dust) Maids month off. LOL
With a wire hanger you can block unwanted light by making a curtain with bending the hanger like this:

Of course the hanger in the image is a plastic one, but it shows the affected better, so use a wire one. Cover the hanger with a plastic grocery bag and tape it on the opened hanger. This is place between a light source that great glare. If you are still having an issue. Thy white paper in place of the plastic.

Thank you for such detailed advice! I have a digital microscope which unfortunately means that the light source is built right around the lens so I'll probably have to look into getting another source

Can you turn the light off? Then you could get a more user friendly light.
