Possible Rare Usurper Pick Up Julian Of Pannonia

travelcoin Pillar of the Community United States 1120 Posts	Posted 10/12/2019 8:21 pm Whilst treasure hunting, I came across an "unknown" Roman coin. Turned out to be a quite rare Titus Fulvius Iunius Quietus. The Roman usurper against Gallienus. I hate to admit it, but I lost it for under $50. I think it was a steal for that, but it was me trying to "snipe" in at the last minute again and I didn't get the bid in on time. But today, I think I scored another rare usurper against Emperor Carinus or Maximian; Julian of Pannonia. M I picked this up for under $30. I guess that's good, but I'm not sure about the value. I need to do more research, as I have not heard of this guy until today. However, I cannot find an attribution match on wildwinds. Now, I'm not sure if this is the Julian I or not - can anyone confirm? Gosh, how many usurpers were there? Turns out to be a lot more than I ever thought. Does anyone out there have a full collection of all them. More specifically the unsuccessful ones. That would be an interesting collection. Report this Post to the Staff

IMP C M AVR NVMERIANVS P F AVG, radiate, draped bust right / VIRTVS AVGG, Numerian receiving Victory on globe from Jupiter (or Carus) standing left, holding spear; star above, TR in lower centre. Mintmark XXI. I'm going to ask for a refund, I don't have an example of Numerian, but I think if I wait it out, I can get something in better condition for about that much. Finn235 Pillar of the Community United States 6130 Posts	Posted 10/12/2019 10:52 pm Agreed, it's Numerian and probably worth about $10-15 in that condition. Not the greatest, but you can pick up nice (VF+, good style) Rome mint ants of his for $50 or less. Julian I's coins are usually found in high grade, always in good style (Siscia had skilled workers), and his portrait usually looks like something between Probus and a very early Diocletian. Also, I dont think I have ever seen one misattributed, and the only one I ever saw sell on ebay went for well over $250 despite being from a very questionable seller. Report this Post to the Staff
