I've got this Woods Hibernia Half Pence and I'm trying to attribute it. The struggle is real. My only reference source (on paper) is Breens Encyclopedia.

Can anyone take a stab at it or point me to a website that has varieties defined?

Weight is 7.5 grams, diameter is 25 mm.

Thanks.

You can look it up in the Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins. My guess it is W-12900 which I believe is the only variety with a single dot after Hibernia

I'll have to find a copy of the Whitman book.

Based on Heritage auction pictures from 7 years ago, my coin is not W-12900.

The Whitman book is good for a lot of colonials but not for Hibernias in my opinion. There are hundreds of varieties but the Whitman book kind of compresses them into a few categories. The only source I know of to accurately Id them is Syd Martin's book on the Hibernia series. It can be quite a chore to ID these even with the book, but I may be able to give it a shot this evening.

@lcutler - I would appreciate it if you could help.

Please don't spend too much time on it.

I just dragged out my Whitman book to look this up for you. I also just realized your coin has two dots, not one as I had thought at first glance the other day. According to the Whitman book you appear to be W-13120 11 strings on the Harp and dots after Hibernia and the date. Martin describes 127 varieties within this genre so you will need to access the Martin book to go deeper into the variety.

OK, spent a little time with it. I am reasonably certain it is 4.16-Gc.3 which is an R2 variety.

Thanks to both of you guys, I appreciate your time and energy.

I will mark the flip with the info you have provided and as soon as I get both books I will verify.

Again, thanks a lot.
