I bought a mint bag of 1961 LMC about four years ago and just got back to looking at a few of them. Found this struck through and thought I would share.

Struck Through Grease and an Over Polished die issue is my guess.

Actually this is not a Struck Through Grease issue. Why? Because the affected area would be wider.

What this is that from die clashes, the die was over polished.

Removing most of the 1. Also note the weakness of the bust vertical line to the left of the missing date. I've seen this before:
