I purchased this cent from a seller on ebay who described it pretty much as I have, but I feel there is more here than meets the eye. The "broken die" portion leaves a lowered gap in the obverse which has impressions within. I can see what may be the original shoulder line, but I also see distinct "letters". Looks like AW (?). If the die broke away, how was it possible to have anything in that gap? I took my own pictures, but included the ebay pictures, too. Please let me know what you think.

Looks like a partial brockage (not a broken die)

Thanks for the help so far. A question, though... what is the lettering , or what looks like lettering? can you describe the brockage in a way I can understand what I'm seeing? thanks very much. Bill.

It was struck through a previously struck cent.

I'm seeing a brockage of what looks like Lincoln's coat/shoulder. That would be in line with Coop's thinking that it's from another cent. I find it interesting that the obverse die look like it was pushed to the K:2 position by the 2nd coin. Does the edge show any kind of a line? As if from a tilted or partial collar strike?

Nice coin! I wish it was mine!

Yes, Yokozuna, in the second photo I show the edge with a line completely around the coin.
