The bottom image is a normal small date. The upper one is a small over large date/RPM Denver mint coin. (Die 1960D-1DO-001 and 1960D-1MM-1000
DDO and RPM both)

While these are called overdates they are not like the 18th-19th century over dates. Back then the digits were added to the die.



before 1909, the Indian heads were like that. But since then the whole die is complete with all the devices. (just the mintmarks were added until 1989. So in order to have an overdate since then, they would have to use two different year hubs in order to make these. The are called over dates, but I prefer the term doubled die. As the die was hubbed with two different years.
