Hi Everyone

First post! I am currently collecting circulating commemorative coins. But I like the designs the mint is selling. But the one thing that has stopped me from buying from the mint is how to display them. Currently I have all my circulated coins in 2x2's in a binder with pocket pages. This makes them easy to go through.

So I am wondering what all of you do if you buy one that comes in a case or small cardboard with the coins. Do you take them out and put them somewhere else, or just leave them in the packaging they came in.

Thanks

Jason

I would leave them in the original packaging or at the very least make sure to retain the original packaging as it will enhance resale value.

I am a big fan of Air-Tite coin capsules, especially the ones with foam rings. In addition there are many alternatives for storage and display of the coins in their Air-Tite coin capsules.

Lighthouse offers plenty of great solutions as well.

I swear by both companies.

I collect the RCM's NCLT silver dollars (36mm size).

When I get them, I take them out of their clamshell and outer box but keep them in their capsule. I then store the coin w/ capsule in Lighthouse coin trays. Each tray holds twenty of the SDs.

BTW: I agree with yellow88, keep all of the original packaging if you decide to store the coins separately - I do!

Good luck with your collecting!

@Evilpenguinj

I have fully bought into the Lighthouse product set... mostly because it is very available where I live and because it is fairly comprehensive in its sizes and options. I usually display/store my NCLT in Lighthouse trays or binders.

Most NCLT will come from the RCM in a plastic Air-Tite like capsule and in most cases, it fits the standard Lighthouse display products.

I do retain all of the original packaging and have a couple of totes with empty RCM boxes and COAs should I or my heirs decide to sell... it will enhance the value to have original packaging and the COA available though I am not sure by how much.

For the items that don't have their own plastic capsules (thinking of the recent $3 1/4 oz Silver 27mm coins), again Lighthouse can offer an option that will be consistent with the other products that came with capsules such as the $20 for $20 series from a few years ago.

I have binder pages that I use with the Lighthouse Quadrum product to store Silver bullion issues. (a square 2x2 plastic capsule with variable sized inserts). This allows me to use a single binder to store varied coin sizes such as ASEs (41mm) Brittannias (39mm) Philharmonics (37mm) or Silver Maples (38mm).

The only place where Lighthouse drops off is larger format coins and medals. Anything over 50mm is a challenge to display elegantly.

Best of luck and welcome again to the forum.

Commems, where on mint.ca do you find the 36mm silver dollars. I was trying to look them up but didn't have much luck!

@Evilpenguinj: there isn't one place I can tell you to look.

The two individual SDs that have been released in 2019 so far have each sold out so they aren't among the currently available coins. You can search on "D-day" and " Peace dollar" to find them or look under Sold Out under the My Shop menu.

There will a couple of new SDs released soon - one later this month (most likely) and another in January. Keep an eye out for them under New Releases on the RCM web site.

They'll both be discussed here, so CCF is another good resource.
