You can have a Dual misalignment of the dies and a vertical misalignment(Tilted Die), but both can more be more accurately described than simply a MAD. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 10/18/2019 12:04 pm No the edge is "normal", the edge hasn't finished filling the space between the edge and the rim. As the coin is strick and the planchet expands it reaches the collar first roughly in the center of the edge and as the metal flow continues the flat edge proceeds upward and downward. As the metal starts filling the rim it starts closer to the center of the coin and the strike continues the flat rim grows toward the edge of the coin. If the strike ends early you get a flat edge and almost no rim and a "bevel" between the two. If the strike continues a little more you get a coin like this one, some rim, a flat edge with a bit of a ridge at the leading edge, and that odd area between the two. If the strike continues even longer the flat edge and rim will come together and that odd area in between disappears. Report this Post to the Staff
