Price Point For Slabbing Morgans

Educate yourself on how the grading process works. There is a wealth of material online about it. A key date coin is usually but not always worth the expense of grading, depending on the condition. If you're grading for resale, a general rule of thumb is a documented value of $150 or more will make it worth your while.

It depends on what you are doing with the graded coin and how much you have into the coin.

In almost all cases it's better to buy the coin already TPG ed. It takes a genuine knack to buy raw coins for the purpose of stabbing them for a profit. You REALLY have to know the series you buy into.

I very rarely buy raw coins, and when I do they are in my hand. At shows or LCS I do find the occasional good buy. But not often. And I NEVER buy raw from photos only unless it is from a TRULY reliable source, or they are still in their original mint issue containers.

The one exception is Modern Commemorative. I scour every one still in original containers because the difference in price from a 69 to a 70 can be astronomical. Even if I only hit one in three 70 grade coins I still make a good profit even with the TPG costs.

There again, you need to know your specialty. I have a $200 minimum value and only ship when I have at least 20 coins to send.

Good topic. Wondering why there are so many slabbed Morgan's like MS62 and 63s. I know these are common dates but seem worth buying for $40:to $60 since already slabbed. My question is why did someone get these slabbed? Assuming the seller thought they would slab at a much higher grade?

In terms of grading/slabbing cost I checked with a LCS and the cost for sending in a coin for me was ~$100. Just wondering what does a dealer pay roughly, if I may inquire?
