On the positive side, zero bids on all his coins

Yes, but on the negative side his feedback shows he's made over 1,000 sales.

What can we do to stop this? This is really bad for the coin community.

This is 2 different conversations with this seller from 2 different CCF members. Hope you all can follow along.

This is what I asked him

Quote:
I asked this seller a question about this coin
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1840001776...l_noapp=true

I just asked him straight out if this has been artificially toned. His reply was "Read my description"

So I replied back to him asking him How this coin could have been stored in his Family Wine Cellar from 1963-1984 when it wasn't even minted until 1987. Waiting on a reply to that question.

His answer to my follow-up question

Here is his answer

After 28 years in the Marine Corp, I retired in 1985 and continued to buy coins until 1990. The coins were shipped from Put-in-Bay, Ohio to Cleveland in 1990 and stored for an additional 4 years.

Now here is where it gets interesting. Merclover also asked him a question and he changed his tune a little. Merc emailed me their convo last night.

I asked Merlover if I could share his conversation with CCF because this proves he is lying about his military career as well.

Here is the question Merclover asked him

Quote:
I just wrote this guy... here is what I wrote:

Hi there!
Wow, I LOVE this coin! I was fascinated by your story and how you found your coins toned the way they are... can you tell me, how long on average did your coins take to tone this way in the wine cellar? I love the tonal range presented in this Mercury dime.
Thanks!

And the sellers response.

I bought a number of rolls from a Malay coin dealer in Singapore in 1960. I was stationed at our Embassy for two years. I took leave and returned to Put in Bay, Ohio in 61 and left many coins with my Dad who knew nothing about coins.
Thinking he was doing me a favor he carefully wrapped each coin in Christmas tissue and stored them in a wooden egg crate which was stored in the barrel room. The barrel cleaning solution was a solution that gave off a gas that polished and toned the coins, I was told this by a coin dealer in the late 70s after I retired and opened the boxes.
Most all of the coins were ruined I thought,. and just forgot about it until the 80s when I moved to California. Up until 5 yrs ago they just remained in the crates. The short answer is 40 yrs in storage and all the crates had a foul odor.
Thanks for your interest.

He told me that he retired from the Marines in 1985 but tells Merlover he retired in the late 70's? Who could forget a thing like that?

Okay so we know from a coin that was sold from another CCF member that the toning takes about 5 weeks. NOT 3-40 years! We also know he is being deceitful about his military career.

Is there anything that can be done about this guy lies? Isn't this selling an item using a fruadulent description?
