Today I was fortunate to metal detect the second large cent within a month. I'm aware there were many errors during this year, but this almost looks to be an 8 over a 1 as opposed to a seven. Condition not bad for being 6" deep in the ground.

AU58 Details Corrosion. It looks like it could be saved to be honest. Do you have Verdi-care and xylene? Or an electrolysis station?

S-167 Die stage III, not one of the three 8/7 varieties. Instant identifying features type II hair, large 8 and the die crack from the rim to Liberty's eye. What you see passing through the 8 is a die crack. Here is a better condition piece in just a slightly earlier die stage while the crack to the eye is still faint.

Great coin. Conserve it with a little Verdicare, and enjoy it.
