1940 S/S Mercury Dime For Grade - Coin Community Forum

Willburton Pillar of the Community United States 2558 Posts	Posted 10/21/2019 09:54 am I've had this one a while and while going through some of my collection and came across this one. The only hit I see on the coin is right in the center line of the torch, along with a couple minor scratches just below that hit. Would this distract from FT? What would you guys grade this coin? Is that a scratch on the obverse hair forward of her cap or a continuation of the die scratch apparent on the neck? Gotta be at least a 65 wouln't you think? Report this Post to the Staff

I looked it up to confirm. Also, yea the worst place for a hit and I was thinking 65 maybe 66 but not higher. Some of the 65s I've looked at have a few hits. Report this Post to the Staff

From these pics I'm not seeing the nicks and scratches one would expect from circulation. Unless it's been polished. But then you wouldn't see the flow patterns I see here. I dunno.
