I have question to ask, I want to get a Seated half dollar, just a loose coin not graded or anything. I dont know how much I should pay for a it in VG or F. I want it cause I'm trying to get a coin of each design. there is a shop I go to sometimes, but I know he doesn't really like kids in the shop and if its to high priced he might not even sell it to me!
Rest in Peace

In my experience over the past year, as I bought one liberty seated half of each type, I found that the coins ranged from 45 to 55 dollars in strong Vg to VF.

When I started looking for each type, it was not that hard to find them for sale. Have you considered an on line coin dealer? If so, I can recommend a couple of trustworthy dealers.

Perhaps someone can comment on whether it is proper for one member of the forum (me) to recommend a dealer to another member of the forum.

As an aside, what kind of dealer would not sell a coin if it is too high priced? It seems to me if I walk into a coin shop and have the cash money in hand then the dealer should be glad to see me.

In the last three years I've picked up examples that range from $15 to $$$. A problem-free (genuine, no holes, scratches, rim dings, harsh cleaning) fine example will run between $40-$60 in a common date/mm. If you are willing to accept some minor problems, you can get them for much less. I picked up an 1867-S that would grade AU except for some rim shaving for $25.

Welcome to the forum!

Nusimedia's online price guide gives a reasonable estimation of retail values. A link is below.
