This is one of my favorite coins. It was slabbed in 1992 or 1993 by the coin dealer I bought it from. The coin showed almost no toning when I bought it, but it seems to keep toning, year after year, in the ANACS slab. I have a second coin from the same roll with the same strike through. That coin shows some dark spots on the obverse in the K:12 position, but no real toning.
This coin is one of eight that the dealer found is a single roll with the same shape strike through in the same location on each coin. The size and shape seemed to change just a little with each strike. I wanted to buy all eight coins, but didn't have the money at the time.
I have no idea what's on the surface of the coin. I can only guess that whatever was on the die that caused the strike through has also caused this coin to tone.
The coin has dozens of tiny areas that are struck through on the obverse and reverse of the coin.
