The coin I would like help with is either a Tunisia or Turkish coin. I think that because I've found coins close to this one in the World Coins catalog 1801-1900, pages 1087-88. The obverse looks like KM#88 4 Kharub but the reverse doesn't match.

The stats of the coin are:

2.3g, 21.2mm, brass looking color.

I would like to know the correct KM # for this coin.

Thanks for your help.

I have a similar one I was trying for a long time to id. I kept getting close, but nothing quite matching. I finally did id it thanks to someone here on the forum. The bad news is, I think that is not a coin, it was part of a bracelet. I've attached pics of mine so you can see the similarity.

Jays-Dad,

You might be right about both of our coins. I guess they are charms made to look like real coins

Many Tunisia and Turkish coins are shown in the book with holes like ours. It would be interesting to know what the inscription says on the reverse side of the coins.

belly-dancers skirt coin... token for your physical pleasure in Middle Eastern environment. Could be a copy of real money in the time that Egypt belonged to the Ottoman Empire, round and about 1910.

Hi WorldCoinTreasures,

The writing seems Arabic. All I can read is "Sultan Mahmood Khan" but I cant see any date or denomination.

Hope this helps

Hi Jays-Dad,

The writing doesn't seem arabic to me, I could hardly read the word "Sultan" and "Struck in". I think it differs from that of WorldCoinTreasures because of the way of writing.

Hope this helps
