This is the new contest that I was planning to launch.

THE RULES
Better to have them written beforehand than try to devise them as we go..

1. The purpose of the game is to identify a coin as to COUNTRY, FACE VALUE and TYPE.
2. Each round starts with a person posting a coin, which can be identified later on as a particular type.
2a. You are allowed to post the whole coin or part(s) of the coin.
3. The person who posted the coin at the beginning is required to confirm the correct guess once it's made.
3a. A third person is allowed to confirm the guess. Third party confirmation has the same effect as the original poster's confirmation.
4. If there is no correct guess in one week, the coin's type should be disclosed by the person who has posted it.
4a. In a case described above, the original poster is obliged to post a second, more obvious, coin.
5. Only the person who wins is allowed to post the next coin to identify.
5a. No photoshopping is allowed other than editing out or covering some elements of the coin's design (e.g. inscriptions).
6. Searching for information is accepted.

Correct guess: "Poland, 20 groszy, Y#A47"
Correct guess: "Poland, 20 groszy, series 1957-85"
Correct guess: "Poland, 20 groszy, communist aluminum" (since there was only one such type, as opposed to two slightly different 50 groszy)
Incorrect guess: "Poland, 20 groszy" (which one?)
Incorrect guess: "Poland, 20 groszy, aluminum" (there was a communist type, and the 1949 one - Y#43a).

Please refrain from posting coins older than ~1800AD..
(the only reason is that I suppose many of us lack the exact data about ancient and mediaeval coins, though I know that we do have someone whom I regard to be an expert )
.. or which identity is doubtful/dubious in any way.

RULES updated 11/09/08.

Let us begin with THIS. To give it a kickstart I post a whole coin.

Cool! (I did read all the rules, lol)

Here's my submission. I have obscured the most obvious identifiers, but the coin's origin, and series remain very distinctive. Good luck!

Guyana made both a 1 and 5 cent coin from nickel-brass with the stylized lotus between 1967 and 1992; KM 31 and 32 respectively. I'm not certain it is possible to ascertain which coin this one is from the picture.

That's Algieria - 20 dinars - obviously 2004 (AH1424).
As far as I know the series consists of 10, 20, 50, and 100 dinars, minted from the early 1990s all bimetallic and with strange-looking numerals.

Winners so far:
1 - KurtS; 2 - COINAHOLIC; 3 - snowman.

You got it DL20K! The series actually has a 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 and 5 Dinar coin as well, but they are not bimetal.

Italy, 500 lire 1961, commemorative for centennial of unification. KM# 99.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
